Ambassador Program

Share your experiences

About

The Undergraduate Learning Abroad (ULA) Ambassador Program recognizes the contribution of alumni to ULA and helps build a community among study abroad returnees. Ambassadors serve as official volunteer representatives of the ULA office and advocate for study abroad within the Northwestern undergraduate community.

Benefits

  • Be a part of a community of fellow study abroad alumni
  • Act as a mentor/adviser to prospective and outbound study abroad students and make significant contributions to the Northwestern study abroad community
  • Gain valuable experience for your résumé and professional development through skills such as marketing, event planning, and public speaking/presentation delivery

Expectations

  • Attend Ambassador group training in the fall or winter
  • Be available via email, phone, or in person to advise interested and outbound students on study abroad and exchange programs
  • Participate in events throughout the year: Study Abroad Fair, SummerFest, or other program-specific events and gatherings on campus

Additional Opportunities

We encourage, but do not require, Ambassadors to become involved in the following ways:

  • Coordinate and conduct general outreach through your on-campus and electronic networks, i.e. through Facebook, Twitter, student group and campus community involvement, etc.
  • Organize firesides, student panels, reunion events, student meetings, and other gatherings to present information on your program and experience abroad
  • Participate in a focus group to provide feedback about your program
  • Make connections with and organize events for future study abroad students to share your experiences and answer any questions they may have before departing
  • Contribute alumni content to ULA blogs

All ambassadors will be grouped by Program Type as well as Region. Additionally, ULA seeks ambassadors who can speak directly to their academic and extracurricular backgrounds and/or their personal identity and diversity as this is very helpful for outbound students.
