HOW TO APPLY

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Call the IPD office at 847-467-6953 to set up an informational meeting with an advisor, and specify which program(s) you are interested in. Non-Northwestern students and off-campus students may arrange for info sessions via phone
  2. Come to the IPD office for a informational meeting.  Here you will fill out an information sheet, learn details about the program(s) of interest, and have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.  An advisor will sign your IPD application, verifying that you’ve completed the mandatory interview.
  3. Submit the following to the IPD office by the program-specific deadlines (below):

    -   Completed IPD Application

    -    4 passport-sized photos These can be purchased at local drugstore establishments (CVS in Evanston) and must be passport-specific glossy photo pack, as they will be used for official visa and student identification materials.  No digital prints, scans, doctored photos, etc. will be accepted.

    -    Photocopy of ID page of passport.  If you do not have a passport (or if yours expires before, during or less than 6 months after the program dates), you must apply for one immediately. If you are not a US citizen (or have multiple citizenships), please include photocopies of all passports, student visas, green cards and other relevant materials.

    -    $1,000.00 deposit check for program (payable to Northwestern University).  New NU policy requires IPD to cash your check upon receipt; it is then held in your own name in Student Accounts until you have been accepted into the program AND confirmed your participation (you have 1-2 weeks after acceptance notification to file your confirmation paperwork.)  If your are not accepted or turn down an offer of acceptance, the funds will be released by Student Accounts so that you can withdrawn them. This $1,000 deposit secures your position and goes toward program fee.  You will be billed later for the remaining costs of the program.  Northwestern students with a high level of financial aid may apply for a waiver of the deposit by contacting Northwestern’s study abroad financial advisor, Sue Kwan.
  4.
