HOW TO APPLY APPLICATION PROCESS- Call the IPD office at 847-467-6953 to set up an informational meeting with an advisor, and specify which program(s) you are interested in. Non-Northwestern students and off-campus students may arrange for info sessions via phone
- Come to the IPD office for a informational meeting. Here you will fill out an information sheet, learn details about the program(s) of interest, and have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. An advisor will sign your IPD application, verifying that you’ve completed the mandatory interview.
- Submit the following to the IPD office by the program-specific deadlines (below):
- Completed IPD Application
- 6 passport-sized photos These can be purchased at local drugstore establishments (CVS in Evanston) and must be passport-specific glossy photo pack, as they will be used for official visa and student identification materials. No digital prints, scans, doctored photos, etc. will be accepted.
- Photocopy of ID page of passport. If you do not have a passport (or if yours expires before, during or less than 6 months after the program dates), you must apply for one immediately. If you are not a US citizen (or have multiple citizenships), please include photocopies of all passports, student visas, green cards and other relevant materials.
- $1,000.00 deposit check for program (payable to Northwestern University). This check is only a deposit and will not be cashed until you have been accepted into the program and have confirmed your participation (you have 2 weeks within acceptance notification to confirm participation). This $1,000 deposit secures your position and goes toward program fee. You will be billed later for the remaining costs of the program. Northwestern students with a high level of financial aid may apply for a waiver of the deposit by contacting Northwestern’s study abroad financial advisor, Sue Kwan.
DEADLINESAll materials must be submitted to IPD office by 5:00pm Fri. Jan. 20, 2009 – all 2009-2010 academic year and 2009 fall quarter/semester programs Wed. Mar. 4, 2010 – all 2010 summer programs Tues. Nov. 2, 2009 - all 2010 spring programs (except Public Health in South Africa, which has been filled)
You must also apply through the Northwestern Study Abroad Office for non-summer programs (Public Health in Mexico, China ELES, Public Health in China, Science and Engineering Research in China are the only IPD programs that do not have to go through the NU Study Abroad office). *Note that the NU Study Abroad office is separate from the IPD office, so you must follow their application processes, including taking the Study Abroad 101 Quiz and submitting materials to them (including a copy of your completed IPD application, which we can photocopy for you at the IPD office). You also don’t have to meet with a Northwestern Study Abroad advisor, as you’ll meet with an IPD advisor instead.
SUMMER PROGRAMSStudents applying to IPD summer programs (including Non-Northwestern Programs) DO NOT complete the Northwestern Study Abroad process. They fill out a Northwestern IPD Summer Application - including relevant supporting materials - instead.
NON-NORTHWESTERN STUDENTSFor Fall, Spring and Academic Year IPD programs You may schedule your informational meeting via phone and submit an IPD information sheet to international@northwestern.edu at least 24 hours before your scheduled phone conference. You must submit all required materials (see above) via mail by the appropriate deadline, but note that you will complete a special Non-Northwestern IPD application instead of the standard IPD application.
